Security Patrol Officer Program

The UCPD Berkeley Security Patrol Officer (SPO) Program is made up of professional staff who provide a uniformed security presence at various University locations and events. They are not sworn peace officers and do not have firearms, but can carry out a limited set of public safety services including non-confrontational patrol and premise security. Many UC Berkeley campus units and facilities with specific security needs contract with the police department for dedicated SPO assignments.

Some SPOs also perform other tasks for the police department including special event staffing, traffic direction, evidence collection, and general logistical support.

If you are interested in becoming an SPO, visit our Careers page to learn more about the position and its requirements.
