Stay Informed
UCPD empowers the campus community to make informed decisions about safety and security by providing timely and accurate information on reported hazards and crimes.
With guidance from the UC Berkeley Clery Compliance Office, UCPD issues emergency alerts, timely warnings and community advisories via email, social media and the campus WarnMe alerting system. All UC Berkeley students, faculty, and staff are automatically enrolled in WarnMe. Anyone can sign up to receive WarnMe alerts and/or follow UCPD Berkeley on social media.
Recent crime reports are posted to the Daily Crime Log and displayed on CrimeMapping.com. Historical crime report data is compiled in UC Berkeley’s annual security and fire safety report.
Below you can also find information about other UCPD activities and efforts including calls for service, departmental use of force and Racial and Identity Profiling Act (RIPA) data.
Campus Alert Warning Siren
At noon on the first Wednesday of every month, the UC Berkeley Office of Emergency Management (OEM) tests the campus Alert Warning Siren. You are likely to hear it if you are on or near campus at the time. In an actual emergency, the Alert Warning Siren will be followed by instructions to take specific actions to help mitigate a public safety hazard.
If you hear the siren and are unsure if there might be an emergency, please visit emergency.berkeley.edu, tune in to KALX 90.7 FM on the radio, or dial the campus emergency information line at 1-800-705-9998 for more information.
Community Alerting Resources
Many cities and counties also offer emergency and crime alerting systems that you might find useful. Please check with your local authorities.
- Alameda County and its cities (including Oakland, Berkeley & Emeryville) use AC Alert for emergency notifications: http://www.acalert.org/
- The City of Berkeley utilizes several other emergency notification services: https://berkeleyca.gov/safety-health/disaster-preparedness/emergency-notifications
