Theft is the most common crime on campus and it is usually a crime of opportunity.

Burglary or Theft Prevention Tips

  • Put away your valuables. Don’t leave them visible.
  • Ensure that all doors, desks, and windows are locked if you leave, and take your keys with you. Do not prop open doors.
  • Familiarize your employees with your security systems and procedures.
  • Keep a record of all keys issued. Master keys and extra duplicates should be locked away for safekeeping.
  • Do not admit strangers into your residence hall.
  • Do not leave coats or other valuable items in common areas or where they are visible.
