Robbery Prevention Tips

The following tips may help prevent robbery.

Travel with others

  • UC Berkeley's free Night Safety Services 
  • Travel with a friend or in a group
  • Avoid dark, vacant or deserted areas
  • Use well-lit, well-traveled routes
  • Be alert and aware of your surroundings
  • Dress in clothes and shoes which will not hamper movement

If you sense danger...

  • Move away from the threat. Cross the street and increase your pace.
  • Join a group of people or enter an open business establishment.

Keep valuables out of sight

  • Do not display cash in a public area
  • When out and about, keep your electronic devices out of public view as they are a popular robbery target 

Report to the police

Dial 510-642-3333 or use a Blue Light emergency phone if you need help.

Please do not delay in calling 911 from a campus landline phone.

UCPD strongly encourages the reporting of criminal or suspicious activity in a timely manner to assist us in intervening in potential criminal actively and apprehending suspects.

Submit a tip to the UC Berkeley Police Department

If an emergency, call 911. 

Option 1: Text 847411

To submit an anonymous tip via text message to the UC Berkeley Police Department, text UCPD and your tip to 847411.

Simply type in UCPD, enter a space, then type your tip and hit send. The keyword UCPD must be included.

When the text message is sent to the UCPD the tipster’s cellular phone number is completely anonymous and is never received by the  UCPD.

To submit an anonymous tip to the UC Berkeley Police Department, use the form below or click the header. If this an emergency, please call 911.

Be sure to save/record your tip ID. You can use the ID to login to view feedback about your tip from the agency/group. Just enter the ID on the tip411 login page and any feedback about your tip from the group will display. You can then submit additional information to the group.
