Bike Licensing & Registration

Per city municipal law, bicycles must possess a license (a DMV sticker affixed to your bicycle; issued for free by UCPD) in the City of Berkeley.  Other nearby cities might have similar laws.  Additionally, to use some secure bicycle parking areas on campus and at residence halls, campus building managers might ask that you have a license (UCPD sticker) on your bicycle.

Unfortunately the City of Berkeley does not offer bicycle licensing, but UCPD offers bicycle licensing services for free. You will need to bring your bicycle to 1 Sproul Hall between 6:30pm to 9pm, Monday-Friday, excluding holidays.

Additionally... (when staffing is available) UCPD plans to hold special bicycle registration sessions at the following locations/dates/times:

  • north end of Upper Sproul Plaza: August 27-30, 11am to noon & September 2-6, 11am to noon
  • north side of Crossroads Dinning: August 27-30, 12:30pm to 1:30pm & September 2-6, 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Periodically, we might have a student officer on-duty during the day between 11am and 4pm, Monday-Friday.  If s/he is available, they could assist you with licensing your bicycle.  Outside of these options, you can email UCPD at police@berkeley.edu if you have questions or need to arrange a special appointment.
